Isaiah 27

The Deliverance of Israel

1In that day athe Lord will punish
Or sea monster
,
cLeviathan the fleeing serpent,
With His fierce and great and mighty sword,
Even
Or sea monster
Leviathan the twisted serpent;
And eHe will kill the dragon who lives in the sea.

2In that day,
“A
Some mss read a vineyard of delight
,
gvineyard of wine, sing of it!
3“I, the Lord, am its keeper;
hI water it every moment.
So that no one will
Lit punish
damage it,
I jguard it night and day.
4I have no wrath.
Should
Lit who
someone give Me lbriars and thorns in battle,
Then I would step on them, mI would burn them
Lit altogether
completely.
5Or let him
Lit take hold of
,
prely on My protection,
Let him make peace with Me,
Let him qmake peace with Me.”
6
Lit Those coming
In the days to come Jacob swill take root,
Israel will tblossom and sprout,
And they will fill the
Lit face of
whole world with vfruit.

7Like the striking of Him who has struck them, has wHe struck them?
Or like the slaughter of His slain,
Lit he was slain
have they been slain?
8You contended with them
Some ancient versions read by exact measure
by banishing them, by zdriving them away.
With His fierce wind He has expelled them on the day of the aaeast wind.
9Therefore through this Jacob’s iniquity will be abforgiven;
And this will be
Lit all the fruit
the full price of the
Lit removing
,
aepardoning of his sin:
When he makes all the afaltar stones like pulverized chalk stones;
When
I.e. wooden symbols of a female deity
Asherim and incense altars will not stand.
10For the fortified city is ahisolated,
A
Lit pasture
homestead forlorn and forsaken like the desert;
ajThere the calf will graze,
And there it will lie down and
Lit consume
feed on its branches.
11When its allimbs are dry, they are broken off;
Women come and make a fire with them,
For they are not a people of amdiscernment,
Therefore antheir Maker aowill not have compassion on them.
And their Creator will not be gracious to them.

12In that day the Lord apwill start His threshing from the flowing stream of the aqEuphrates to the brook of Egypt, and you will be argathered up one by one, O sons of Israel. 13It will come about also in that day that a great astrumpet will be blown, and those who were perishing in the land of atAssyria and who were scattered in the land of Egypt will come and auworship the Lord in the holy mountain at Jerusalem.
